Fountain of Fools

... from which the name Gubbio derives as “city of madmen”. According to an ancient tradition, the stranger who runs three laps around the fountain and accepts to be bathed with water becomes a citizen of Gubbio with the title of “Honorary Fool of Gubbio“understood as an ironic and playful person.

Roman Theatre and Antiquarium of Gubbio

One of the first things you will see as soon as you arrive in Gubbio is the Roman Theatre. It dates back to the 1st century B.C. and was one of the largest at the time; in fact, it could seat about six thousand spectators.
